Kayo's visit! ♡

Hey!  I'm finally blogging!  Kayo was so sweet!  I really enjoyed getting to know her!

It was interesting to talk to someone who is a TRUE gyaru, not just some white American girl who thinks she knows everything about Gyaru fashion.  haha!   I was excited to be able to talk to Kayo and pick her brain about gyaru stuff!

Ok, some interesting facts I learned from Kayo...
❤ D.I.A. is pronounced "Daiya."  As in the vegan cheese brand...

❤  Bobbi Brown is a popular cosmetics brand among gyaru.  This was shocking (!!!) to me because I think of Bobbi Brown as a super natural-looking brand for boring older upper class ladies.

❤  Clothes from Shibuya 109 are considered small, even in Japan. >_<
Friday night I hung out with Kayo and Rina.  Then, on Saturday, we hung out with a bunch of the the local gyaru.  Earlier in the week, I hung out with Kayo and Mikko.

Tuesday with Kayo & Mikko

Friday with Kayo & Rina

Saturday with... lots of gyaru! >u<

Ok, I want to make a comment.... do not these gyaru look amazing?  American/Californian/San Franciscan gyaru don't get enough credit!

Check out Kayo's video!  Sophia helped her make it.  I am not familiar with vimeo, so I couldn't figure out how to imbed it, but it's really cute!  I'm in it but I look so creepy.  @_@  During Taylor's interview I'm slouching and staring at her like a lecherous turtle. lolol.  ~_~

It was so nice to meet you, Kayo!!!  Please visit again!!!

OL-a-go-go!

Good news: I have been promoted! I am a permanent, full-time employee!  All that shopping for business clothes really paid off! Haha!I finally took some photos of my recently purchased work outfits.  I used to think work clothes were the most boring clothes ever--and they are! But I have to wear them, so I am trying to have fun with them.  ^-^

I've been wearing the 30-day circle lenses to work, they're supposed to be okay for daily wear but they are definitely not as comfortable as normal contact lenses.  They're also not very big!  They are srsly like 1% bigger than my real eyes.  ;_;  I want bigger eyes!

I've also exchanged my black nails for simple girly, sheer pink polish.  This one is from the Japanese brand Pa, available at the Ichiban Kan store in J-town.

Finally, some outfits...

Photobucket

This top was expensive (for me)! But I love it!
Top: American Apparel
Skirt: Ross

Photobucket

Dress: Ross
Cardigan: H&M

I almost never shop at Ross but whenever I do, I find cute stuff!  This dress was kind-of a mistake because it water stains so easily. That's one thing about work clothes vs. party clothes--you have to keep in mind the frequency with which you wash or dry clean them!

Photobucket
Dress: YesStyle (store in Stonestown)

This dress is actually really ugly, now that I look at it photographed.  Yikes!  Hahaha!

Cardigan: H&M

Dress: Morgan... From Paris! With love! :)

Dress: X Generation (store on Haight)

I actually haven't worn this one to work yet! I'm afraid the skulls make it too casual.

...So that's just some of my new work clothes.  It always feels creepy taking photos of myself. I tried to hide my face and my big hands.  Don't look!

******************************************

I have been neglecting the OL Style tumblr, but I found some cute pics. Style Arena always has cute street snaps, so I posted some pics from there. Check it out of you are a working girl like me! :) I'll update it again soon!

I hung out with Kayo (& Mikko) a few nights ago.  It was so fun!  I'll see Kayo again this weekend and I'm so excited.  Kayo is so awesome!  This may sound dumb but I didn't realize she was 100% fluent in English.  Talking to her was so fun!  I think I was laughing the whole time.

I'll definitely blog about her visit soon!  XD

Iron Lolita Thief

Loli, loli everywhere but not a drop to drink!  Sorry, that Willy Wonka reference sounded better in my head.

Photobucket

Can you spot me?  I'll give you a clue: I'm the blond right smack dab in the middle!  I didn't choose that conspicuous spot, I was directed there!

The lolita meet was so fun!  I actually ran into a girl from my old job.  I never knew she liked lolita!  Everyone was really cool and friendly as always... even though I was not looking my best!  I felt bad that everyone made an effort to look nice and I obviously rolled out of bed and threw on a wig and sunglasses five minutes earlier. I didn't even put my real hair in a wig cap. Pathetic!

Photobucket

Don't I look scary every single day in this pic??  I look like terrifying lolita hybrid of Donatella Versace and Karl Lagerfield who had a stroke on her 80th birthday.

In fairness, my eyes looked horribly red because I wore my circle lenses for about 24 hours straight. Work + Iron Maiden concert + post-show hangout at ihop.

Photobucket

Oh yeah! Iron Maiden was so good!!   PROOF:

OT but I've been taking really weird photos lately.  Look at this ugly one from the Tidal Wave metal festival.  Someone who was officially photographing the event took this pic and it's on FB.Photobucket
Doesn't my leg look like a drumstick?  Yuck!  "Have another sandwich, why don't you!?"  Haha!  I didn't know I was gonna be in the photo.  Our friend in the middle is kinda famous in the local metal community, so I thought the pic was of him!!  BTW, Do you like how my husband is drinking his beer with a straw?  That was my idea.  ;)

Back to the loli meet.  More randomness, I ran into a friend at the Lolita meet (she was just walking by!) AND at the Iron Maiden show. I know her through the Blythe doll community but haven't seen her in a while.

with_S

She posted this pic on facebook and all her friends made comments about "Lady Gaga." >_<

After the Loli meet we went to Japantown to go to Btssb (Baby, the Stars Shine Bright). I was a bad rabbit and bought myself something.  It was fun to kinda hang out in the store although they have some idiotic 'customers' aka losers who come to gawk at the clothes. Seriously, the Btssb shop staff are more patient than preschool teachers and nightclub bouncers combined!

I can feel this post starting to get boring so I'll wrap it up.  Next I had dinner with some of the lolitas who were all super cool and fun to talk to. Then went to a punk show with my hubbo. And we lived happily ever after.  The End.

P.S. All my photos are stolen! F*ck the police! No, I actually hate photo thieves. so I feel bad stealing photos. Sorry friends!  Please forgive me!

P.P.S.  Sorry if I was overly self-depreciating.  I realize it can sound like a cry for help or fishing for compliments but it's neither!  I think it's funny to make fun of myself--it actually makes me feel better!  I'm accepting myself!  :D

Welcome to the working week: OL style

Work sucks but I need the bucks.... Actually I like my new job!  I'm an OL (office lady) now.  Well, I'm not really an OL. I'm married but still working.  It is not my destiny to be a housewife.

The whole concept of an OL (like a 1940's "His Gal Friday") is so backwards and sexist but for my purposes, I'm going to ignore that and focus on the fashion!!

So anyway, I work in an office and I have to dress professional. I want to dress appropriately but not too boring.  I've had jobs with a professional dress code before but this time I'm trying to have fun with it and not just buy generic INC clothes from stupid Macy's.

Minami Princess suggested I look at Ray, JJ and Vivi.  Fortunately, they sell all of them at Kinokuniya so I got some.  The magazines are so good for the more casual OL style! I used to think these magazines were totally boring... And they kinda are if you're comparing them to Egg or Popteen. But in contrast to what the average American office worker wears, the clothes in these mags are pretty damn cute!

[I plan to scan!  I can't figure out our new scanner on my Mac.  -_-  The first crappy pic above^ is just an iphone pic from Ray.]

I was never really into mode or retro girly styles but they would totally work (not everything obviously), for my office.  I have a Momoko mook from months and months ago which I suddenly find very exciting!

Not my scan.  I was dumb and got the mook with green tights I'll never wear.

I hadn't found any good resources on OL style. If you do an online search for Japanese OLs, you get porn, porn, porn!  Sooooo.... I started a new tumblr!  Check it out!  I plan to update regularly with (non-pornographic) cute OL photos and scans.

(It is still a young, underdeveloped baby so please treat her delicately when you see her.)

I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you!  Welcome to the working week!
